This year, our teachers began using the GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) model, transforming lessons into interactive and engaging experiences for all students. The strategies help make learning accessible for English language learners while also challenging and enriching students at every level.

Classrooms have become lively spaces where students are motivated, focused, and confident in their learning. One student, who had been hesitant to speak in class, found her voice through GLAD activities, participating confidently with her peers in both English and Spanish.

Through strategies like chants, sentence patterning charts, observation charts, and focused vocabulary activities, students are actively engaged in their learning every day. These tools help them practice language, build confidence, and connect ideas in meaningful ways. Whether reading aloud, working with peers, or exploring new concepts, students are gaining skills that extend beyond the classroom, making learning both fun and purposeful.

GLAD aligns perfectly with our school’s goals of supporting English language learners while providing rigorous and enriching opportunities for every student. The strategies help make challenging content accessible for newcomers and give proficient and advanced learners opportunities to deepen their understanding through reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities.
