Before Thanksgiving break, students in Mrs. Duff's English Language Development class worked with Schoolyard Gardens to build three new garden beds at the front of our Middle School. As part of a real-world learning project, these garden beds will be full of vegetables come spring! Antes de las vacaciones de Acción de Gracias, los estudiantes de la clase de Desarrollo del Idioma Inglés de la Sra. Duff trabajaron con Schoolyard Gardens para construir tres nuevos parterres en el frente de nuestra escuela secundaria. Padres Comprometidos is a parent engagement program whose primary goal is the fostering of a strong connection between schools and parents. To this end, the Padres Comprometidos program builds the capacity of Latino parents to acquire the skills they need to effectively engage with schools and play a leading role in preparing their children for college. The program addresses language and culture as assets–rather than obstacles–upon which skills, confidence, and, ultimately, empowerment, are built.

Spirit week and door decorating contests for Hispanic Heritage Month is definitely two of the activities the kids have been enjoying! Attention Aztec families! HCA will be hosting a Free Heart Health Clinic and will be offering free flu shots to the first 100 people! Student-led conferences enable students to discuss their progress, set goals, reflect on their learning, foster self-awareness, responsibility, accountability, and confidence. You must bring your students for a successful conference. Families will receive NWEA scores, WIDA testing, and grades from their students. Incentives will be announced soon! See you all there! ¡Familias aztecas! 🎃 Las conferencias de padres y maestros están a la vuelta de la esquina. Las conferencias serán dirigidas por estudiantes.
