Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year!

Dear GCES Parent or Guardian,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year at GCES! As we gear up for another year of learning, growth, and success, I am thrilled to welcome each and every one of you to our amazing school community. Whether you're a new family joining us for the first time or a returning family continuing your journey with GCES, we’re so glad you’re here!

In my new role as PK–2 principal, I’m proud to support the continued efforts of our dedicated teams. This year, we are setting the bar high because we believe in the potential of each and every one of our students. We have high expectations for ourselves, our students, and our school community as a whole. Together, we can achieve great things by pushing ourselves to be the best that we can be.

Our theme for the 2025-2026 school year is:
“Let the Games Begin! Together We Can Complete the Mission!”
This playful and purposeful theme reflects our commitment to goal-setting, celebrating growth, and building a school culture where learning is exciting and meaningful. Our staff and students will be encouraged to set personal and academic goals, persevere through challenges, and celebrate their achievements—big and small!

I want to recognize that you are your child’s first and most important teacher. Strengthening the partnership between home and school is essential to student success. This year, we will introduce new opportunities for families to participate in school life—from classroom visits and family events, to volunteer roles and input committees. One of the first opportunities to connect will be at our Family Orientation Night on August 11th! You will meet your child’s teacher, learn more about classroom expectations, and begin building the strong relationships that will support a successful year.

We are a school family, a team, and a community that supports and uplifts one another. Let's work together to create a warm and welcoming environment where every student feels valued, respected, and included. Excellent attendance is key to success in school. Attending school every day, on time, and ready to learn is a habit that can set you up for a lifetime of success. Let's make a commitment to prioritize our education by showing up every day and giving it our all.

Let the games begin—here’s to a year full of learning, laughter, and shared success!

Warmly,

Alexandria Thiessen
Lower Elementary Principal
